I think i’ve been beat in the face one too many times with the message of this book. If we were able to get to utopia, human perversity — the drive toward experiencing the world — would drive us from it. That is why Adam and Eve left the Garden of Eden, and why Candide must leave Eldorado. Even paradise is intolerable to us. Getting the things we want is just as unsatisfying as not getting the things we want.
