Status Updates From Inertia (Impulse, #1)

This is SO Michigan -- for those of you in the rest of the U.S., Michigan's bottle and can refund is 10 cents each -- there are no cans and bottles on the side of the roads, when returning 10 of them gives you a dollar back!

This is such a different style from the other 2 books I've ready by this author.

I really, really, really want to like this book. Normally I would say I prefer character driven books to plot driven, but maybe that's an utter lie. I am BORED. BOOOOORED. I want these dudes to FUCK ALREADY. I understand why they haven't, there's several good reasons, but COME THE FUCK ON. That is all.

"I'm having an issue with my dishwasher, though, and I'm hoping you can help me out." Is that what we're calling it now? MY DISHWASHER NEEDS TO BE CHECKED OUT, TOO, DERRICK.

Why can't I read this all day? WHY DO I HAVE TO WORK FOR A LIVING? Some days I think I'm just a tummy tuck and a boob job away from hooking me an old rich dude. And really, would that be too much to ask?

We've got a suspender sighting folks. Seriously? I thought it was only grandpa's with beer bellies who wore those. NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH BEER BELLIES. Some of my best friends have beer bellies.

Off to bed with Derrick and Gavin. Really, really enjoying this book.

This might be a DNF
1. I am bored...given the title, I might have guessed.
2. The characterisation of Devon (not all black ppl are on drugs or work to rehabilitate those who are or consider the quest for self evolution to be "white people's problems) *sigh* is tiresome.
3. The writing is amateurish and stiff. Requires an editor.

On to book two!

"What is it?" Gavin's hands stroked his shoulders as Derrick hesitated.
"Teach me." Derrick whispered without any forethought or consideration, his heart hammering in his chest. "I want to know what you like, what you want. Help me learn you."
Gavin's hands stilled for a moment, his voice warm with understanding when he murmured back, "Gladly."

He couldn't put himself in a position to go through that again, to watch another person sicken and die, to lose...
