It would be necessary to read Storm Constantine's Wraeththu books first to understand what is going on. Unfortunately I haven't. It sounds as if it's meant to be mystical tour through a devastated but recovering Earth, but it reads like a very long road trip with much androgynous cuddling. Reading Constantine's books could make it better.

I really am enjoying this book, but ye gods, do I ever have some words about the maps it refers to.
