Status Updates From Private Dicks: Undercovers

Brains on reading are magical and bizarre. I read the opening page of "The Royal Inquisitor" and i knew it was night during the scene but i couldn't tell anyone exactly why i knew it was night. I went back, reread slooooowly, and realized i had read words such as "the dark street" and "moonlight."

Bah, completely underwhelmed by the second story. It ended up being loving established couple against "them"--with a focus on the famous Persona issue--not my cuppa.

Kinda alarming that the guy can't have fun without his partner there.... Unhealthy relationship Much?

First story, Temper, total bomb: boring. Second strory PI and Rockstar, bad going in cuz I hate rock star stories, but I couldn't help but be intrigued with The writer's mesmerizing storytelling. Still reading this one. I'm waiting for the detective's solid footing and surety of his long-term lover's love to be knock to pieces....

#7 The Demon Bride was slightly predictable, plotwise, but it still kept me interested and I liked it. Last up, #8 Too Dangerous.

Another hit with #6 Regarding the Detective's companion. #7 The Demon Bride is good - to the point where I got angry I had to get off the train at my stop and quit reading for now!!

So as I said, I disliked cases #1 Temper & #2 The PI and the Rockstar, BUT I enjoyed case #3 - Glamour. I also really enjoyed #4 The Virginia Gentleman. I expected to like #5 The Royal Inquisitor as well, as I like that author; I wasn't disappointed. Currently in case #6 Regarding the Detective's Companion and so far it's all right. I'm definitely enjoying this anthology more so than I was at first!

Ok now we're getting somewhere. the second story fell a bit flat for me too, but the third was spot on. Now I'm enjoying this.

This is an anthology of private eye stories of all genres. The all genres part threw me off a bit because I wasn't expecting the first story to be so heavily supernatural (and a bit weak on the investigative part). It's taking me a bit to get into. We'll see how it progresses.
