the 1820s, the Bartholomew Fair in West Smithfield was a chaotic, two-week spectacle of commerce and vice. Held each September, the event transformed the cattle market into a crowded carnival featuring theatrical shows, freak shows, and cheap food, while drawing massive crowds of both slumming gentry and opportunistic pickpockets.

Camp couldn’t let it go without a final flourish. Nell has decamped and is missing. Of course we knew where she went.
And the progress report still says I’m 100% done

Dash And dammit. It was.Iona Halford, with the go-between of the maid, who had first given the false note to Genevieve. I was so hoping for Lady Dursbury, she of the ample bosom, and the come on to Myles

It took until 99 and 99% of the narrative to get where they needed to be. It was like the soap commercial. The commercial for Ivory Soap by Procter & Gamble was first used in 1882. Their famous, long-running advertising slogan of purity paired with the claim that the soap also floats.
Just like the narrative. Just saying.

Genevieve has had a life lesson from Thea. She is now about seducing her husband. Good luck with that. Too little too late for this reader.

The quality of insult, like that of mercy, it’s not strained. I received an insult today in a thread on a Substack, I was called dumb as rocks. And amazed at the sharp words. My response was that we should both back off, and I offered a Mea Culpa. But Genevieve should’ve stood up and slapped her stupid cheek. More fodder for the scandal sheets.

Here, now, wondering who is feeding information to the scandal sheets, suddenly Lady Durnsbury. Of the so ample. Bosom springs to mind

Myles to the rescue! Scandal sheets out of whole cloth involve Genevieve en flagrante with a married man. Myles ever to the rescue. At this point, it seems that Genevieve is a little dumb if she doesn’t understand from conversations with him that he has desired her for years. Dumb and pride, not a good combination.

Genevieve may be forgiven being raised by her grandmother. “A Stafford should set an example”

She was stronger than her desire? The first two books of the series I have no interest in. The drama. But here constant camp is using a misunderstanding as the pivotal trope of the narrative. It is being drawn out like taffy. I do not like taffy.

She had to hold her head up. She had to act like a lady. Like a Stafford.
So,… She wrapped herself in her breeding like an armor…

That’s telling them

No matter the time. It is always the woman who suffers. Whatever the scandal the woman is held to responsibility. Amazing that we are 51% of the global population, and still confined.
