It's been thus far underwhelming.

Besides, she had a new son to take care of.

How in the hell did she get temporary custody of a kid from CPS within one week? She has no experience of her own with any children, nor is she a relative of the kid's, so there's no reason custody would've be expedited.

It was hard to feel victorious as her life fell apart around her.

Exaggeration, much? I mean...she's known Matt for barely a week and Gabe's not even her kid...

Am I supposed to find it cute that he not only stalked her to her workplace (after finding out where she lives, btw), but then he "orchestrated taking George to see Dr. Hamilton so that he could see her again"...? Because I don't. That's not cute.

Wait...weren't we just told that he had a splinter in his hand? And now they're foreplaying it and sexing it up? Uh...I hope he took that splinter out...at least for her sake...especially with where his fingers are going now.

The cookies were still hot from the oven. Matt broke one open, and the molten chocolate looped down over his thumb.

It's really annoying me that this guy's a carpenter but never washes his hands before eating...even when eating foods like sandwiches and cookies.

Gina smiled and looked pointedly at the precisely piled wood. Nothing was thrown or ripped. It had all been dismantled as gently as possible. “You treat that staircase as if you were undressing a woman.”

Who even makes a comparison like that???

Matt frowned fiercely. “So, could this mean your illness is coming back?” he demanded.



Wait...what? How did he...huh? Is this guy really asking if her leukemia is coming back because she broke her wrist...? Is he really this stupid????

“When did your father die?” she asked.
“Ten years ago.”
“I’m sorry,” she said.
Matt waved a rough hand in the air. “Don’t be. It was a relief.”
Gina could only gape in surprise ... Things must have been really bad to cause that kind of resentment.

It's literally not that hard to use a spoon with your left hand even if you're right-handed. Like...it's literally not that f'ing hard. It doesn't take ambidexterity to spoon soup...
