Status Updates From Dirty Wars: The World Is a ...

The author even complains about the way we took out Bin Laden. There's no special op this guy won't criticize, apparently.

I am starting to get the impression that the *primary* thrust of this book- that the US is a really really dirty birdy in how it executed the GWOT- hinges on what was done to Anwar al-Awlaki...while, ironically, making Anwar out to be a clear supporter and enabler of terrorism as the author tells us more about him.

So apparently, Obama didn't change much in how the War on Terror was conducted, at least in the early stages in his presidency. It will be interesting to see how/if the author spin-doctors his *many* later actions.

I have real concerns that this author believes that any time the US kills a "suspected" terrorist without 100% proof of his allegiance to a terrorist group, that the US is *worse* than the terrorists themselves. It makes me want to ask if he knows any terrorist groups that fully vet their chosen targets as "100% Crusader" before beheading or kidnapping or raping them.

Kinda funny: one chapter spent telling me that Anwar Al-Awlaki "might" have been an unjustifiable kill, then a few chapters later details many of his actions that makes his elimination quite justifiable from where I stand. Did the author deliberately craft this apparent lack of awareness?

I'm not buying *everything* that this book is selling, but it definitely provokes a lot of thought.

Saw this book at a thrift store for $1, saw that it was an available audiobook at my library, bought the book for my techno-challenged dad and checked out the library copy. It's gonna be a long one.
