درباره تاثیر دایمی درد مزمنِ کمر، روی مغز این توضیح رُ داده:

از چپتر هفتم و Visceral Pain مباحث جذابیت پیدا کردن.
اولین جایی از کتاب که یه سوال ساده و خیلی مهم پرسید همینجا بود: چرا زایمان باید با درد و اونم این میزان از درد اتفاق بیافته؟ باعث شرمندگی خودم میدونم که تا حالا اصلا -مخصوصا از منظر بیلوژی تکامل- این سوال حتی به ذهنم هم نرسیده بود.

اصلا نه در حد تکست بوک بار علمی داره و نه در حد پاپ ساینس جذابیت.فقژ هر از چند گاهی یه پاراگراف جالب مثل این داره:
"Cognitive pain is what transforms pain into suffering.
...It is remarkable that pain, a sensory process that began in simple animals as a reflex function to avoid trouble, has evolved into suffering, one of the highest and most complex functions of the human brain."

والا هیچ چیز خاصی نداشته.البته به تاکید داشت به اینکه« هر دردی الزاما مفید نیست »که من در این مورد در جهل به سر میردم. دستت درد نکنه، نویسنده.
