Okay, so mostly really enjoyed this, but the ending was rushed given how long this book actually was. I have so many questions about how the HEA is going to stick: what about Peter’s job? What about Sean’s? Who is going to have to give up what? Is Sean going to live in the community that has been so awful to him? What the hell happened with the car guys who tried to hit Sean MULTIPLE TIMES? No body, no crime?

“Then it will be different. You can come home with me ans chain yourself to my trees. I’ll watch you from my hot tub. I’d love that. I love you. I’d love you anywhere, Sean.” He’d felt Sean’s smile against his neck.

Peter had tipped Sean’s chin up and smiled at him, and then he’d tugged the end of his braid, promising, “It’s going to be okay.” Sean’s nod had lacked conviction.
“And if it isn’t, Pete?”

In some ways this book is very slow — lots of running and returning, cycles of earning and losing trust, and just chipping away at the overwhelming hoarder house — but when you take into account that this only spans 1-2 weeks, the slow plot helps Sean and Peter’s relationship to feel like a slow burn and strong foundation, given how long they’ve actually known each other

Of course now that Sean is starting to be less anxious and stressed, now Peter is all quietly angsty and doubting his self-worth and place in Sean’s life. Of course. I love hurt/comfort books, but man, do they make me want to slap the characters upside their heads sometimes

As Sean closed his eyes, Peter sent out silent thanks to every messed-up, no good, very bad mistake that had brought him to this perfect moment.

“No one ever tried to catch me before.” His lips pressed against Peter’s collarbone. “I didn’t know what to do with myself.”
“I can’t help if you run away, and you don’t have to do any of this on your own now.” He kissed Sean’s ear, his cheek, and his lips. “Run to me, next time. Okay? Run to me.”

“You’re allowed to freak out, Sean. But you can’t keep running when things get hard. You can’t. You’re too fast for me.”
Sean buried his face in Peter’s chest. His voice was muffled. “No one ever tried to catch me before.” His lips pressed against Peter’s collarbone. “I didn’t know what to do with myself.”

“When you ran across the highway, yelling that you were a paramedic.” His last kiss came with a quiet admittance. “I didn’t believe I needed saving until the first time I saw you.”

Sean turned, wrapping his arms around Peter’s neck again. “So, you don’t plan on leaving for a while?”
“Not unless you throw me out. If you want me to go, you’ll have to make it really obvious. I’m not exactly the brightest. I didn’t even know you wanted me as much as I wanted you. When did that start, anyhow?” He kissed Sean’s neck as he answered.

Aiden’s noisy approach was deliberate. He said, “Please don’t be naked,” before he bent to peer into the tent, then his expression did something complex. “Are you two brushing each other’s hair for real?”
