I am loving the writing. I just read a scene where the main character, Theo, the one who was injured at the beginning, is drawn to help someone. There is great emotion and insight. I was completely pulled into the scene and characters and made to care about them. This is really excellent writing. I will have to go back and re-read the beginning. Perhaps, my opinion was tainted by having read the other book first.

I got a copy of this ebook from BookRooster in exchange for reviewing it. I've only read a few pages and am hoping it improves. I finished another book by the same author this morning and enjoyed it, so I was eager to read this one. However, it isn't starting out well. A woman is injured and there is a monster nearby and she's making funny sarcastic remarks. Am I supposed to feel fear? sympathy? amusement?

Having a hard time getting into this book. The reviews I just read say the same thing so I'll keep plugging away and hope it makes sense soon.
