Don't be deceived into thinking that doing ethics is common sense. This is a perfectly valid ethical theory that to radically conflicts with commonsense moral experience. Have a taste:
"Ethical egoism says that the morally right action is the one that produces the most favorable balance of good over evil for oneself. That is, in every situation the right action is the one that advances one's own interests."
