At this point I can't see anything virtuous in any of these people!! Roger, I can respect... but man, Trollope really knew how to write complex but extremely frustrating characters!!!

‘He thinks so much of his business.’
'Oh! I didn’t know,’ said Mr Melmotte.
‘He sits at the same board with you, I think, Mr Melmotte.’
‘Oh – that’s his business!’ said Mr Melmotte, with a grim smile.
Why is every dialogue like this help. I can't with this book-

This is so good! The characters are all so fascinating! I love how quintessentially Victorian Trollope is. Every time I pick up one of his books it’s like I’m thrown back in time, sitting in a drawing room or in a gentlemen’s club… so good!

Idk, but the cover of this just feels as both silly and serious as the book and I love it

"'Oh, Felix, say that you love me.’ Then she put her face up towards his again.
‘Of course I love you,’ he said, not thinking it worth his while to kiss her."
—Trollope giggling aggressively while writing the whole conversation

"‘Did I?’
‘Did you not?’
‘I don’t know what I said. Perhaps if I said that, I didn’t mean it.’
‘Am I to believe that?’
‘Perhaps you didn’t mean it yourself.’"
...Guys you've been going like this for pages.

Someone should time travel back to 1875 with a car just so that they can run over Felix Carbury. He's the absolute worst.
