Status Updates From The Works of Richard Hooker...

Just finished book II which was on the errant Puritan view of Scripture being opposed to the church’s interpretation of it.

“For whatsoever we believe concerning salvation by Christ, although the Scripture be therein the ground of our belief; yet the authority of man is, if we mark it, the key which openeth the door of entrance into the knowledge of the Scripture” II.VII.3

Great so far. Finished book I. I should probably go read the preface though.

Book I is a great intro to the foundation of natural law.

Skipped the biography by Walton and introductory material, most of the way through book I of the Laws of Ecclesiastical Polity.

Excellent so far. The content and distinctions are similar to Junius’s Mosaic Polity.

I'm starting to understand the conspiracy theory that claims Puritans stole Hooker's manuscripts of Books 6-8 after his death. Hooker's arguments are utterly damning of Non-conformity.
