Status Updates From Dust

Avalyn is dealing with a rough realization and it has shaken her up.

I stomped my foot like a little kid.

I have literally seen grown ass adults do this. 🙄😑

And some questions flat out cross a line. I've dealt with that too.

Avalyn's empathy for Adam is interesting to read about wrt bullying and the way they've both struggled with standing up for themselves against bullies. That's very relatable.

His face softened a little. “She was always sad, okay? She was never, ever not sad."

My guess is that Adam's mother had depression.

I can understand why Adam wanted Avalyn to stop asking him questions about his life. I've been there. Some people can come off as nosy whether they mean to or not.

It's interesting how Avalyn thought that Magneto was a sympathetic character.

The foreboding mood at the end of that chapter was intense.

I noticed he [Avalyn's dad] was wearing his Mr. Good-Lookin’ Is Cookin’ apron Mom had bought him for Christmas. My cheeks flushed in embarrassment. I hoped Adam didn’t read it.

Oh, my god!! That's fucking great!! Too funny. 😆😂

It was cool to learn about the mormyridae. I didn't know about it, but I don't know much about marine biology, so that's understandable.

I'm correcting myself. All of the dialogue at the end of that chapter was cute. 😁

'Well, if you do go to the beach, I have a solicitation for you. S-O-L-I-C-I-T-A-T-I-O-N.'
Dad smiled. 'Solicitate away, my dear.'

There's something cute about this dialogue. 😀

Avalyn and Adam are starting to bond. I love what Avalyn did to the bully characters. They had it coming. 😇😏

Avalyn's peak flow meter was mentioned and I smiled a little. I remember my peak flow meter from middle school. I'm so lucky that I don't need to use one anymore.

That made me wonder if villains ever thought of themselves as villains. Or did they always see themselves as the heroes of the story?

That's thought provoking.

Even after we all went back to bed, and both Nan and Dillon were sleeping soundly again, I couldn’t rest. Even after Mom gave me a breathing treatment in the living room.

Taking albuterol in any form can make a person feel jittery and wind them up. That's a side effect of the medication.

The bully characters Bryden and Caleb used sexist and homophobic remarks as insults. How original. 🙄😤 It was cruel of Bryden to steal Avalyn's inhaler, but that goes without saying.

I'm glad that Adam apologized to Avalyn for being rude to her.

I don't want to read about Adam being bullied tonight. That seems rough. I'll read the upcoming chapter tomorrow.

Props to Avalyn for continuing to be kind and helpful to Adam. It's hard to be kind--or want to be kind--to someone when they're being mean or rude to you. If someone is mean to me, I usually want to avoid them. Or see them as little as possible.

I could relate to Avalyn taking her nebulizer to help with her symptoms. I took my nebulizer when I'd get sick during my childhood. It's not a fun thing to do, but it helps open my airways when I have a cold. Boring breathing treatments have their benefits. 😅

I can understand why Dillon's classmates felt annoyed by him being a know-it-all, but no one needed to push him. The character who pushed him was a bully, so their actions weren't surprising. 😣

Avalyn is sweet for wanting to include Adam in her group of friends.

Avalyn's spelling words have to do with the Spelling Bee that she's in. Cool!! I already knew the word "mellifluous" because I looked it up when I read Scythe. 🙂

I like the use of Avalyn's spelling words as a coping skill and a way for her to deal with (or try to) the bullies in her first class. The scenes with the bullies haven't triggered me so far, but I was never bullied because of my asthma. I still feel bad for Avalyn, though. 😔

The three of us had been greeting one another like that since Dillon became obsessed with this YouTube scientist named Pavel Belsky, who began his videos by saying “Hello, marvelous person” in his thick Russian accent.

I went to elementary school with a boy named Pavel and he had beautiful handwriting. I think that his family was from Russia, too. It's surprising that I remember that but I do. 😅

I'm curious to see what'll happen between Avalyn and Adam as their friendship begins and evolves. I'm also not familiar with Empath from X-Men, but my X-Men knowledge is very limited. Lol!! 😆
