I honestly feel no connection or emotion between Madison and Dean at all… unfortunately very disappointing so far, but going to push through to see how it unfolds

The unexpected twist has made the plot a lot more interesting.

I like this flipping of the trope: the good BOY helping out the bad GIRL. It's nice when YA Romance surprises me like this.

This reads as authentic. Anyone who's suffered under bad parenting or horrible relatives knows when a narrative about our experience rings as "True".

When I was a kid, my maternal uncle committed suicide. The aftermath was a sad joke, with the very same bastard relatives who were responsible for his death crying the hardest. That made me give up on the idea of suicide, so this plot feels very real to me.
