I mainly just found myself quite confused, as the main character witnessed a good deal of stuff, and when she wasn't being oblivious or reserved, no one would explain anything to her.
This book felt like alot of plot holes and confusion, and little relevant story development. But I guess we'll see if any of it matters in the third book.

I don't understand people preferring this one over the first book. So much time between events made no sense, except for the barrier preventing more action. The sense of urgency was always dashed by this, or people refusing to talk with her. But also, many times I wondered why she didn't take a certain action, and the book would usually say that wouldn't be a good plan, but wouldn't explain why not.
