Status Updates From The Art of Science

A Chemist called Dalton was the first to identify X-Linked red/green colour-blindness! Short, but interesting chapter. Certainly more interesting than classifying clouds!

Ah, I just read the short section on Mesmer and mesmerism. This was interesting, because it links to skepticism and the importance of clinical trials. I think this is when science learned a lot about the power of suggestion. It was probably milestone in the development of critical thinking.

I finished the incredible dull chapter on Cloud Classification. The following chapter was actually quite interesting! It was about Scurvy and the way it was originally studied. It'd been suggested before we know about vitamins to eat citrus to avoid scurvy. But it was later when they tested giving scurvy patients different things that they PROVED scurvy was solved with citrus fruit. I might get back into this!

I started this ages ago and thought I'd give it another look. The chapter on Linneus was interesting as I'm currently studying phylogeny. Then it went on to classifying clouds, which isn't that interesting to me. It's a kind of interesting book, but very academic. At the moment it was boring me to tears, so I picked up 'The Long Earth' to read instead :P
