Clear on the devastation to undeserving Palestinians but also sympathetic to the Israeli cause.

This book is making me so, so depressed. It's an excellent book and I'm loving it, but what with current events in the world, the themes of indoctrination and collective memory and trauma are so universal that it's really taken me aback.

So far, a fair account of how the violence from which Israel was born affected Jews, Arabs, Israelis and Diaspora Jews. An eye-opener which strikes me as much more accurate than the creation myths propagated by the winners and the displaced. Most poignant is the plight of the Yemeni Jews, who upon returning to Israel were forced to deny their Arabic heritage, yet were treated as alien by the mainstream returnees.
