A good chunk of this book makes me realize that damn, LBJ is a complicated man. He is almost chaotic good, just had an upbringing that made him tough with an ego for his dedication. Also HOW it is so crazy how detailed it is. Like every single facet of how the nation was faring in a micro and macro scale is relevant.

Damn LBJ was a jerk. Goes into his college years a bit too much, but for good reason; he was a master manipulator in order to become Class President, with the constant backstabbing, bribing, and ruthlessness. It wasn't nice but it worked, and goes to show that getting dirty in politics was necessary - even if it's small scale.

150 pages in, LBJ is 10. Caro is the greatest to ever do it.

Finished Part I. Spends a LOT of time with LBJ's grandfather and father, but honestly I respect that. And I got a sense of LBJ's childhood, which he was quite a troublemaker - but honestly what are you supposed to do when you are poor, the entire town hates your family, and you want to rebel against your family? Good book

After 4 hours of the audiobook, we finally get to LBJ lol. The fact we are spending so much time with the parents and now LBJ's childhood is actually quite interesting, and I'm glad it took its time to get there. But damn, we really went for every single detail.
