History of Art by Elie Faure was originally written in French, and then translated into English by Walter Pach. There are five volumes: Ancient Art, Medieval Art, Renaissance Art, Modern Art, and The Spirit of The Forms. They were completed from approximately 1903 through 1937. I can personally only vouch for Vol. 5, but they are masterfully written and translated in addition to their detailed historical analysis.
