if i hadn’t learnt russian, i would not know half of the references in this book, which is written in english by a londoner. it would have completely gone over my head- assumed to be gibberish of sorts. i wonder if this is the case for readers without this sort of exposure because it’s so prevalent and would have tripped me up a year ago..
