Book starts out with a quote from my favorite author, James Baldwin, and the title to one of my favorite Johnny Thunders songs. I'm not sure there could be a more auspicious beginning.

It probably is because I'm a basketball fan, but I liked Roberge's basketball novel DRIVE better. Something about it was more seamless. more 'together'. This is really good too, though. Reads like a rock memoir gone wrong.

It's difficult, not getting attached to Bud Barrett's brokenness. Very difficult.

This book resides somewhere between the works of Charles Bukowski and Jennifer Egan's A Visit from the Goon Squad.

I love Roberge's writing and totally believe in this character and situation. However, I am a little concerned about the wrinkled chronology and all the jumping back in time. I'm losing track of where I am, when. But I'll absolutely keep with it to see where the ride leads!
