This book has some helpful advice. I like it so far - even though I skimmed a bit.

"'One hand for the ship, one hand for yourself.' Teachers of writing should consider this maritime message. Too many young teachers give both hands to the job, sacrificing their personal lives to the demands of their classroom...Effective teachers know how to give their students a full hand of help. They also know that preserving their second hand for themselves makes for a happier, healthier, better-balanced life."

I just think letting computers grade essays for you is lazy. Sorry, but there is no excuse for shortcuts. We don't want them from our students, so we shouldn't do them as teachers, no matter how it's rationalized.
