Currently at the Hellenistic period after Aristotle. Russell is very smart and it certainly shows in his academic-style writing. In ancient times, philosophy had a much broader meaning so there have been chapters ranging from biology to logic to history; Russell takes care addressing these subject areas by changing his storytelling. It’s difficult to read if I’m unfamiliar with a subject area.
