This scene, with the wound, I'll have to read it one more time, perhaps several, right now, but I briefly felt I'd read something better than Before the Law, from The Trial, something better capturing what it is to be human, a facet, or the totality therein. I only fear that the particular loneliness I felt therein was a tad too solipsistic. I'll see whether this "too" is in fact actual.
