He comes to the conclusion she had fallen inlove and that whenever somebody fell inlove it coincided with misery, feeling of being lost and helpless to strong violent emotions, and lost of innocence. This seems to be the second turning point and change for the boy for the rest of the book beyond ch 10

it seems there’s a switch, the environment bright, vibrant, lively yet Zinaida is dreading and grieving—maybe over her own innocence and freedom that might’ve been taken away from somebody we are yet to be revealed to. Her misery hurting the boy, making him close to throwing his own life aside for her happiness. Gone the boy we knew with individual thoughts, behavior and hobbies.

Page 46: it’s funny that even though he had a very jolly nearly drunk-like whimsical time with the princess and other suitors, the sky and environment around him was dreadful and grim. As if it was foreshadowing a terrible event to come and ruin the joy he feels with his newfound feelings for the princess(love).
