Status Updates From Between Existentialism and ...

This book is full of some of the most bizarre, interesting and often challenging essays I’ve ever encountered in my reading journey. I particularly enjoyed Satre’s overly detailed analysis of Tintoretto’s Saint George and the Dragon, in which every line and curve has meaning… apparently. Then, there’s a (real btw) riveting and violent battle between a psychoanalysist and patient, where the patient wins out!

Sartre is making a case that the US was conducting a genocide against the Vietnamese during the Vietnam War. It eerily mirrors the current US-Israel love affair. It has made me reflect strongly on the narratives I was taught in school I.e.: the US wanted to stop the spread of communism, and yeah, it was a bad ‘war’ because the soldiers were fighting a losing battle. This chapter has challenged my education.

As an aspiring writer, I am finding immense value in his words on writing:“[Literature] is a critical mirror… after that, people can look at each other face to face, and act as they want.” “A man carries a whole epoch within him, just as a wave carries the whole of the sea.”
Writing must “… reveal, demonstrate, demystify, and dissolve myths and fetishes in a critical bath.” Next is his take on Freud.

Yli hea sissejuhatus Sartre ideedesse. Näitab nii ta poliitilisi, kui ka filosoofilisi mõtteid ja artiklid ja intekad on mega head. Esimesed kaks olid veits wordsalat ja sp ka paar punkti maha.
