What a terrible book.

I have 3 suspects:
H- would fill a typical role. It's always the quiet ones.
B- Obnoxious ass. Unlikely except in the case of bad writing.
G- purely for the "least likely" reason, and I think a terrible choice but at this point the author has exactly zero of my goodwill or trust.

What was the thought process behind this book? "I'm going to write characters who are unlikable and have no sense of urgency and just bicker about stupid things while doing nothing to solve a mystery. It'll be a winner!"

Busking on the Underground is illegal, and if you break that law (normal), the police will assume you will break all laws (murder). This is a normal thought process.

Every single character is an absolute moron, except the main character, who is a variable moron.

Idiot middle-aged daughter has, instead of trying to call again at a decent hour, FLOWN TO ENGLAND and FORCED HERSELF I TO HER MOTHER’S APARTMENT.

I mean they truly do not care and this is incredibly bizarre.

Reaction to seeing a young man holding a corpse in the stairway: “oh yeah definitely go out it outside somewhere.” This is a normal reaction.

Our elderly (68 y.o.) protagonist is AGONIZING over buying a fantastically beautiful dressing gown in impeccable condition because she found it in *gasp* a second-hand shop.

Confirmation main character is supposed to be 68. Also gets awoken at 4:30am by idiot daughter on telephone, then a more natural awakening at 10am. No mention of jetlag although they should DEFINITELY be struggling with it. Really feels like the author is just…not paying attention.

Ah, the 80s. When it was still normal for a non-passenger to see a friend to the very gate of the plane. Also, apparently, when women in their 60s “were a bit over the usual age for hurtling ourselves around the world.” (??????)

Eve seems like a piece of work; don't know why Trixie would stick with her. Looking forward to more.
