The writing is fairly evocative, but it can get bogged down in repetitive and extraneous detail. Backstory is info dumped. There's no concern with character exploration. The quarter-point complication was laughably easy to overcome and didn't really challenge Romulus to grow as a character.
That said, it is entertaining enough in a mindless way. I think the story would be a better graphic novel, though.

I admit I’m not the most well-read in steampunk, but if this is exemplary of the sub genre, it’s got to be the modern literary equivalent of the 1980’s Saturday morning cartoons. I think it’s meant to be buffoonish, or else I wouldn’t be able to continue.
