The story did not flow well, and the author (perhaps appropriately) found Agassiz an unsympathetic character. A struggle to finish. Humbolt’s biography much more entertaining, perhaps as he seemed a more fun, social, worldly man.

Even though he was kind of a racist jerk, he also made Harvard's Museum of Comparative Zoology the coolest place on the planet (things in jars! dead things everywhere!) and I'm kind of on a 19th century scientific illustrations kick right now, so we'll see how this goes.
