Status Updates From Women of the Night

I was not expecting to like this last story. Reading out loud really helped me to see it come to life it was like Tombstone meets Dracula and the Old West. I thought there would be one more page I don't know if Lucy came back from the dead at the end or not because it said he chest did not rise and her breath could not be felt but her fangs made themselves present...

I'm not sure I understood what was really going on in this story but now I know it's based on a real life woman in the Book of Luke in The Bible. It made it seem like she was of the darkness. The Judas character's plot finally ends in this story and Judas goes to a tree to hang himself. That's different...

This Johanna character seems to be a vampire but not sure because she can't be on the light. It's like she is friends with some of the apostles as Peter and John are mentioned and Judas the betrayer. A very interesting twist...

I'm not understanding this story. The first 2 parts are of an outdoor revival of some sort and violence happening from young guys attacking the people there and the second is of The main character meeting Judas Iscariot long before he denied Jesus weird tie in but ok...it's not over yet...

That's one of the weirdest Cowboy Vampire singer stories I have ever read. There were some other characters added in, but I couldn't quite follow who they were. The vampire had a girlfriend before but used to be a friend as well, and you see him on stage as he dedicated a song to this person. The rest was set in the town around the show. It was giving very small town vibes.

Vicki the Vampire as of a couple of months trying to solve crime and now with this vampire she was told not to go after she does it anyway even after her partner told her not to. Good story reminds me a lot of Underworld but instead of lycans it's solving crimes...

I'm liking this story it's a couple pages in about an investigator that was turned into a vampire and now she and her coworkers are trying to figure out what happened to a woman who was killed on the streets...very interesting world here. It reminds me a lot of Underworld.

Wow how many times I reread that story I saw it more in the world of Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire it was in the same place as Interview was a part in Mardi Gras. It mentioned Anne Rice's house being in the location the characters are. I liked it but it was a little confusing at times it seemed like it consisted of 3 different stories in one...

That was a very different story reading from the female perspective of death it was very weird. Almost as a spirit talking...

I really wished I didn't start this book when I did this was another creepy not scary story it reminds me a little of Interview with the Vampire just more creepy in a weird way...This book will get a low rating from me.

This one was hard to understand this boy had been having weird dreams where he would see a female vampire woman and she liked him a lot. He was staying with people who found him out in the snow and took him in like family...

Ok that was the most confusing short story I have ever read. I had a hard time following what was going on. Something about a Duke and a young woman who, in a way, could be his dead daughter who came back to him in a way of another person. Her mingling with vampires and the story of a flower that keeps them away. What a weird story that was...

If ever you get this far in the book, skip this particular story this author is a pervert. I'm glad that's over. I'm not even going to comment what happened it had nothing to do with horror.

Wow that story was fascinating. I didn't think I would want more from that story, but I wanted to see where that story could have gone. A female running for office, but there is a twist she's a vampire that has her past history to where she is trying to use it to her advantage. She was hurt sexually. Now, she will stop at nothing to get what she wants using people to her advantage to help her to get her position.

I can't say this was a scary or anything of a horror story it just seemed to me this group of young women were in a mental house they called Dark house. Where thoughts messed with their minds. It's hard to say what exactly was going on.

Wow a cliffhanger story. A young boy goes to see an old lady for cookies and he reads to her she notices the first time this happens she sucks all the youth from him and turns young again but then starts to turn old again the second time he goes to see her the same thing happens but this time it sticks. He makes his way home but never gets there. We never find out what happened to him...

I finally finished that long short story reminded me a lot of Interview with the Vampire and Beauty and the Beast. Except this is the Beast's story how he came to be there isn't much of an ending but we find out there is a young woman living with her brother a creature of the night with large wings. She seems to be a prisoner in her own home. She learns of his change and is now in shock. Very confusing ending...

What a sad, morbid kind of story the queen I believe is taken from power in a medievalesque kind of world. She is taken advantage of while she watches the princess's heart being put back in her body she is alive somehow even after her heart stopped beating and she puts it back in herself and her skin leaves no trace of it after. She has somehow stolen the Queen's power. That sexual scene could have been left out...

I wanted more from that story. That was a short story that should have been longer. I literally felt like I could see it as it was happening it takes place in the world of King's Salem Lot in Jerusalem's Lot. A story about a mother and daughter who go missing during a snow storm and they return as vampires. I could have read a whole book on those characters. Loved that story...

Time for my second read for Spooky Season. Starts with a Stephen King story...I'm sold

I'd give Nancy Holder's story a 4 because it's beautifully written.

It was okay but there's a definite theme on here regardless of the gender of the author... this last one kind of referenced the power of victims who speak out against their abusers.

"Food Chain" was just weird...the "milk of contentment" just was strange. Most of all there were waaaayyyy too many characters introduced to have any sense of what was going on in the first several paragraphs.

The Cookie Lady more of an act of vampirism, it had more the flavor of a witch story or a ghost story, with a bit of Hansel and Gretel thrown in for good measure.

Liked the concept of the second story a lot. Still not enthused with the treatment of female characters though... apparently all we are are sudectresses that are alternately damsels in distress at the same time. Always beholden to our base need as women to find out man *eye roll*

Loved Neil Gaiman's story although it echoes the first. Female vampire seductress... I liked the spin on the Snow White story but I was hoping for a little more story than female vampire uses sex...

Ok so nice introduction but then I realize that the first four stories are by men and the closing story is also by a man; but then again this collectionbamis also curates by a man. I feel like this says something about female driven fiction....
