This isn't a biography of Katie Luther. It's a great biography, don't get me wrong--but it's a biography of the household, not exclusively of Katie. I can come to no other conclusion after a chapter that details the household expenses in detail, followed by a chapter that largely deals with brief summaries of who Luther's notable boarders, student assistants, and Table Talk scribes were.

While the actual story is riveting, the details of how much literally everything cost/was worth is getting very boring. Thirty pages into Chapter 5, while some of the financial accounts and anecdotes are entertaining, I really don’t care how many Gulden each pig and bottle of beer is worth.
