Raise the Dawn: 4 stars. David R. George’s second half is a marked improvement over Plague of Night — it’s tighter and more focused, even if its cast and galaxy remains just as large as its predecessor. He does a fine job tying together his various story threads across the two books, while leaving plenty of room open for more. Now on to Una McCormack’s entry in the Typhon Pact!

3 stars for PLAGUES OF NIGHT, a sprawling but awfully quiet slow-burn until the last couple chapters. The last sentence makes the next book an automatic must-read, so good thing it’s included here!
