Too much re-reading passages like graffiti spray painted on the sides of box-cars on poison trains.
Hell.
I remember everything I read last night.
Like it was branded on my brainpan.
The writing in this lean novel is action-poetry.
People killed & they die in a kind of Sam Peckinpah waltz-time beat.
You worry how the writer is gonna carry it off.
So much better than as a reader I deserve.

I read the Kindle edition back in 2013. I decided to purchase the trade paper edition a couple of months ago & started reading it for a 2nd time tonight.

Uniquely brilliant writing.
Even better the 2nd time around.

Committing a crime, I'd discovered, wasn't that scary. Trying to get away with it, however, was terrifying.

How will it end? I wonder.

It had been two years since I had been brutally relieved of the impression that God was listening to me. But like a grown man crying for his mother, some part of me cried out for Jesus to help me.

Ok, just finished reading one of the greatest noir scenes I can remember. They are stripped down naked while disposing of the dead bodies!

I was scared of these men, scared of things going badly, scared of not seeing Felicia again, but I wasn't scared to be breaking the law.
