Ch. 3 Storytelling belongs to grammar in the trivium and what does Aravis do? Tell a story (Mercury). She starts of with her lineage and connections to high rank (Mercury). Her mother and brother are dead (Underworld - the Moon and Hecate). When is the sun dark in one’s eyes? At night (Moon). She is being forced into marriage and that makes her passive. Her father sent messengers to her match (Mercury).

The white queen is Mercury, but is also linked to the Moon, silver, passive, female. Obviously, Avaris is female. CHECK. We are already seeing links to the moon and silver. Being dressed in her brother’s armor is an identity change and she could be seen as his twin (Mercury). Wearing armor points to heraldry (Mercury). Grabbing her sword shows she is ready to fight (Mercury).

Ch. 2 The first physical description of Aravis is that she’s clad in mail (which is silver) that shone in the moon. THE MOON! The moon connects to the sea because of tides. Her black phase has already happened, so this is the white stage for Aravis and Shasta. Shasta said, “I’m dreaming,” which is the moon. They are quarreling from the very beginning. The moon is linked to wandering which is what Aravis is doing.

Corin even tamed a Narnian bear that went wild. Cor was better than him in battle though. Exit bear, pursued by Corin. LOL

Cor learns the shocking news that, by law, he must be king because he is the eldest by twenty minutes. Corin is thrilled because princes have more fun. Lune gives an explanation of servant leadership (so good). When the quarreling couple grow up, they marry so they can keep quarreling. Their son Ram becomes a great king. Bree and Hwin also marry, but not each other. Corin Thunder-fist became a great boxer.

It was under the moonlight on the lawn with lanterns. The wine flowed and it was time for poetry and Aravis and Cor were surprised at how good the poetry was. The fiddlers played for them. They heard an old lay of how the double-headed giant became Mount Pire, Lucy going in the wardrobe, Bree told of a battle, and then King Lune announced bedtime for the young people.

In gratitude, Rabadash kicks at them. Everything happens as Aslan predicted. Because the people saw Rabadash transform, he lost all respect. When he became Tisroc, they called him Rabadash the peaceful because he never went out in battle. Behind his back, they called him Rabadash the Ridiculous which is how he was recorded in their history books. Of course, the book ends with a FEAST!!!! They held it on the lawn.

Oh, and Bottom, too. Since he appealed to Tash, will be healed at the Autumn Feast at Tash’s Temple. Until then, he will stay as a donkey. He will be kindly treated and transported to Tashbaan. For the rest of his life, he must stay within ten miles of Tashbaan. If he crosses the boundary, he will turn into a donkey permanently. Then Aslan disappears. King lune promises to ship him back with carrots and thistles.

Rabadash says for the skies to fall and the earth to open (Hell/cave) and blood and fire to obliterate the world. He says he will not stop until he drags the barbarian queen to Tashbaan. Aslan announces that his doom has struck. Like Pinocchio’s buddy, Rabadash turns into a donkey. His last words were, “Not a donkey. If it were ony a horse!” Aslan tells him that justice will be mixed with mercy. Merchant of Venice!

Everyone stands because Aslan has arrived. He warns Rabadash to be careful, he can still avoid his doom. Rabid ass? makes horrible faces, wiggles his ears, and calls Aslan a demon. He invokes Tash, the lightning of scorpions, and for the mountains of Narnia to be ground in the dust. Aslan warns him that his doom is at the door lifting the latch. This is all of the imagery of the elements.

I think this is a sign of the coagulation phase because the bestiary says that peacocks have such hard flesh that they are not subject to putrefaction (decay). He calls them barbarians and sorcerors. He says he will rain down oceans of Archenlander and Narnian blood. There will be torturing and burning. Finally, the bolt of Tash will fall from above. Corin makes a snarky remark about that.
