So Asha wants to go to the ship, but the tide is in. They play some flutes for no reason. Then Zahn goes wondering and the tide has gone out. Does he tell Asha that she can go to the ship? No. He wanders off so that he can kick off the plot. I am close to DNFing this.
Another prose problem. "You'll get the hang of the flutes some day." This doesn't matter. They are planning to be on this island for only a few days

The prose still takes me out some times, but the story is picking up.the short chapters have a good pace to them

They keep talking about an 8 sided shape that has triangular faces, but has a triangular ceiling panel. That shape doesn't exist. It's driving me insane

Zahn has met the alien called Oonak and has decided to go to the south pole on his planet to launch a stargate. I am honestly finding the prose to be quite poor at points, on a pure sentence by sentence level.

We meet an old man who purely talks in riddles for no reason. No one really talks like that. He appears to tell the mc something then disappeara, literally. Then Zahn climbs the mountain to talk to his mum. The descriptions are vague and only based on sight. But here he talks to his mum. This should have been the start of the book. This was interesting. Now something has fallen from the sky and I want to know

The first lines are eyes opening. A cliche. The first chapter is a dream. Cliche. Now we have characters talking about their own dreams for no reason. Not a great start.
