This one is doing a better job than book 2 already, but some ideas feel plucked out of the air. Like the guy has been gone for years and people expect to bait him with the wedding of a girl who had a crush on him while he was oblivious and thought of her as an acquaintance?

I don't get his line of thinking sometimes.

Overall, I would say that I am entertained, but also not fully loving this one. Farden has regressed in many ways and even after getting through quite a lot of the book, he's still has not come around. There are hints at some very interesting things with the gods, Farden's daughter, and how the world is changing, but instead the story spends the most time with Farden and his many rather uninteresting flaws.

The time skips have thrown me off, but I like that we are basically getting a brand new version of this world. I also liked the bits with the gods. There are some interesting things being set up here, but unfortunately we spend way too much time with Farden as he wallows in self pity, does despicable things for money, and relapsed I to his addiction. Just not an enjoyable POV to follow.
