Status Updates From Anna (The Kirov Saga, #1)

I am very here for the crisp, clear and breathtaking Russian winter descriptions; just as I am here for the lush, romantic steaminess that is FINALLY happening between silky sheets. And - asfsfsjksh! - it’s been worth the wait.

This book is why I like historical fiction: grand, sweeping, epic storylines with high feelings, an immersive world, and being completely drawn into the various lives of the characters. 💗

This really is a wonderful world and story to escape into. Epic in scope and high in feeling, I am loving following along Anna's journey as she settles into her life in Russia. This is grand storytelling with lots of threads and characters; romantic, humourous, atmospheric and immersive. I'm enjoying it more and more with each chapter.

A surprising read: this book has moved on from a predictable, trope-y historical romance to a sweeping, “Arabian Nights” (only in Russian) adventure tale with gothic elements, and I have little idea what’s going to happen next. Huh.
