“…peacemaking can begin in humble, sweaty, uncomfortable ways.”
“We won’t choose silence and despair…. We will fail each other and ourselves, we’ll make mistakes and get called out, we’ll need to get very familiar with humility—we will brush the dust from our faces … we will learn how to start over and over

“The work that is mine to do, I need to be faithful to do.”
So true.

There is a Jewish concept called “tikkun olam” meaning “healing of the world”. It is considered the work of all of us; we’re all called to repair the world.
We can’t save the whole world. We can’t fix everything that’s broken. There will always be something to be Against here. But the cure for my despair and inaction has been the hope of being For the repair of the world.

As we work to imagine something better, we can develop a rhythm of turning away (from the things we’re against) and then turning toward (the hopeful future we imagine), like a beautiful dance. ‘Not this, and so this’. It’s a form of restoration. What we turn toward should reorient us to the world of love, joy & service. Naming what we are turning toward is a rebellion against the broken story itself.
