I take back my disappointment - this is a beautifully written biography of West, by an author who clearly empathises greatly with her subject, Gibb's tender affection is palpable as is her admiration for West's work ... there is rather too much of the life lived rather than the work written - I'd like to have seen a greater proportion of the content focused on her work and career. Worth reading.

After a good start I am a little disappointed that the focus of this biography has, like its predecessors, focused primarily on West's personal life rather than her work ...isn't it about time we got a biography that showed us an insight into the MIND of West not into the heart of her?

This is the umpteenth biography of West I've read - it feels same old same old but that's the nature if the beast for an academic.
