"Holly smiled over at the lawyer. "Your--son?"
Gil blinked. "Uh, no, he's not my son, Holly."
But you just called him 'kiddo'. Who calls their romantic partner kiddo?! That's just weird. Even if Gil likes to be Sam's 'daddy' in the bedroom, kiddo is not an appropriate word to use for your boyfriend/spouse (although it's circa 1998, so they can't be married) in a casual setting with a stranger staying for dinner.

'She felt like Pollyanna, but was certain the overall effect would be appreciated.'
I've read Pollyanna 3 or 4 times and I don't remember anything about her getting dressed up (in a cocktail dress, no less) & spraying herself with 'lavender-scented toilet water'. This scene doesn't seem to have any relation to Pollyanna's Glad Game either, so I'm left feeling confused and wondering which of us read Pollyanna wrong.

I'm sick of everyone, men & women, constantly describing Holly (MC) as the most beautiful woman they've ever seen. Other than having blond hair I don't think her actual features have been described (probably because it's hard to give a description for 1 woman whose looks are universally worshipped - beauty is in the eye of the beholder, after all), so all I see in my imagination is blond hair & a vague woman's shape.

It seems I've already started this book sometime in the past (no idea when). I very clearly remembered bits of the prologue, especially the scene at the pond (but not till I started reading it) and I've just noticed that I (or someone, but almost certainly me) has dog-eared the corner of the first page of the first chapter. One chapter in and I'm interested in the murder and the mystery of Holly.
