And yet the test of battle was endurable, as we have seen. in part because the Continental army shared so much with the people who sustained it. In the long struggle of the war, what made the cause "glorious,'' besides its great principles, was the fact that so many believed in it. As it took hold of Americans' imagination, the glorious cause became, in the popular phrase, the "common cause."

The day I finished reading Bleak House (loved it) I then pick up this and find a reference to Lord Boodle from... Bleak House! A nonfiction book about America in the 1700s, written in the 1980s, references a fictional character from a novel published in England 1853. I love it when my books talk to each other. :)
