Great back story, it made me want to read the whole series over as well as the Harry Potter series, chrestomaci series and abhorsen. The writing is very referential and reverent of other significant story tellers. That's part of the appeal, the many references and retellings of important stories.

I've always liked Carey's stuff the best when he's collaborating with Peter Gross; sort of like how rhubarb is always better with candy corn.
