There's a lot of lost history here. Those familiar with earthquake geology may be surprised by the unique aspect of a river structure with substantial alluvial deposits over a fault line.
But there's also an incredible amount of social history involving the western expansion of the United States and the conflicts with native Indians -- even when "treaties" are supposed to offer guaranties.
