Status Updates From The Weird: A Compendium of ...

Amazing so far. I've mostly been reading the short stories by authors I know, with someone I have never heard of in between, and none of them have been bad or even below average. It has 110 different authors so I still have quite a few left. Lots of new authors I want to check out full novels by as well. Angela Carter, Robert Aickman, and Caitlin Kiernan were especially interesting. Great way to discover new stuff.

A Redress for Andromeda by Caitlin R. Kiernan (2000)- An excellent, pelagic horror about a strange ritual on Halloween. I've heard praise for Kiernan, and this bears that out.

The God of Dark Laughter by Michael Chabon (2001)- A sort of a satirical, noir story of a murdered clown hunting at long-lost secrets, with a gumshoe protagonist.

The Man in the Bottle by Gustav Meyrink (7/112)
⭐⭐⭐

Meyrink has a penchant for combining unsettling and unraveling with dreamy, delicate romance which is very decadent of him. I liked the grotesque and the ornate elements of this story, but it felt underdeveloped.

Yellow and Red by Tanith Lee (1998)- Excellent creepy, gothic story about an old house and a possible curse. Extremely well written, being Lee.

The Specialist's Hat by Kelly Link (1998)- Very creepy one about two twin girls left to their own devices in an old mansion while their father takes the more typical ghost story route in the background.
