Many of the atheists in this book have some serious misconceptions about what it means to be religious. They think it means just giving up rational thought or science. As if religion and science are opposed to each other, or you cannot come to God through rational thought.

Closeness and warmth between parentd and children more often results in the passing down of religious traditions.

An authoritarian father or a dismissing mother can turn children off of religion even with weekly church attendance and catechisis.

Kids with a close relationship with their parents tend to adopt the views of those parents.

This connects to my essential question because the author is going through each generation that he interviewed and there religious beliefs. It is interested to see how each ones differ and how its passed down to the next generation but, also how they change just a bit with each one.
