Clearly, Logan needed to make sure his future mistresses didn’t have crazy husbands. Laughing to herself at that thought, she shook her head and tried to dispel all thoughts of Slutty McWhore and her husband, Batshit Crazy.

She loved her job, and she certainly didn’t want the fucked up shit that happened all because of an affair affect her ability to keep that part of her life. A little bit of anger rose to the surface as she recalled all the circumstances involved.

“I have no idea why any man would do to you what Logan did. He has been my friend for a long time, too, but all I see now is a selfish, undeserving man who took something so perfect and threw it away.”

When the sobbing ceased a bit, she whispered against his chest, “How could I be such a fool, Jake? How could I let him do that to me?” She pulled her head back to look him in the eye and asked, “How come I wasn’t enough for him?”

When she pulled back and looked up at him, his heart actually constricted in pain at the look on her face. “Why wasn’t I enough for him Jake? Why wasn’t I good enough?” she managed to choke out and then put her face back into his chest to sob some more.

“Yes … I was with her,” Logan said in a shallow, emotionally spent voice of defeat, and hung his head forward. And then all hell broke loose.

He knew there was nothing he could do or say to cover his tracks because she had figured it out.

“Were you with her this week? When I was waiting for you at the store to get Dylan’s birthday presents, and you didn’t show up or call me—were you with her?”

“Tell me, Logan, did you ever stop sleeping with her? Or have you been screwing her this whole time?” Logan’s eyes closed, and he looked as if he was trying to process something. She had her answer. There was no denying it with his response, but she really needed to hear it. “Tell me you didn’t forget, Logan. Tell me you didn’t forget that I told you, if you cheated on me again it was over!”

“Can you imagine that Logan? Can you imagine what it feels like knowing that you have given everything you have to another, only to find out that it wasn’t enough. Can you imagine what it feels like to find out that the person you have loved and have given your whole life to, loves someone else?”

Jake got directly in Logan’s face and growled back at him. “What I mean is that YOUR wife left YOUR house shortly after YOUR mistress left YOUR son’s birthday party!” Jake stayed in his face, begging him to do something about it. Logan just glared back at him, so Jake continued, “Oh, and she probably left here in YOUR car with YOUR sister. Yep, I think that about covers it.”

Jason turned his mean glare on his best friend once again and growled at him. “Can it Logan! It’s complete bullshit that your goddamn mistress is crashing your son’s Eighth birthday party and that your wife has to deal with this. This is not about you, so I suggest you shut the hell up!”

“Are you okay, Gilly? What do you need me to do for you? Should I ask her to leave the party?”

That was when she realized that Jason knew who Jody was. Of course he did! Why wouldn’t he, he was Logan’s best friend? But for some reason, just knowing that Jason knew what was happening, and that he was supporting her in the matter, brought more tears to her eyes.

“Yes, I did know she was living here now, baby. I'm sorry I didn’t tell you.”

“That’s one way to avoid the other question. Your evasion of it, though, can only lead me to assume that you are, still in fact, involved with her!”

“Are you still seeing her?” she snarled at him.

“Did you know?”

Suddenly, shame and humiliation enveloped Gillian, filling her with the need to run, curl up in a ball, and pray for this to not be happening. NO! No, dammit! How dare she have that kind of power? She could not let this happen again

She couldn’t believe this was happening here. This was sacred ground to Gillian; the mistress had no business being on her turf. She was a threat, and Gillian needed to protect her family from this evil woman. She needed to protect herself from the embarrassment that was going to follow when everyone found out who this was standing in front of her.

Logan’s mistress was standing there in front of her, staring back at her.
