Status Updates From The Bittlemores: A Novel

28% in and I'm struggling. There is abuse of animals & children, neglect, and more, which I can handle if it is written with care and serves a purpose in the story. I think the writing is good, but this author clearly hates fat people. Mrs. Bittlemore is described as grotesque, fat, having sausage-fingers & constantly knocking into things. She is the only character whose physical appearance is repeatedly described.

One thing Jann Arden and George RR Martin have in common, is that they can both write characters that are absolutely, irredeemably, awful. The Bittlemores are amongst the worst characters I’ve ever come across in fiction.
