Took me a while to catch on to the premise of he researcher and detective. Now I understand. Love the book but it is slow going for me. I love science and trying to solve puzzles but I know almost nothing about physics. This book is exploring lots of questions and he theories that go with each. I already know the answer to the question but it is interesting to watch science struggle to avoid the answer.

He's referred to Encarta as something he's actively using several times. It was discontinued in 2009. Very odd.

No one living on the coast in a culture that had sailing ships ever thought the world was flat. Sails become visible over the horizon long before the body of the ship does, and it's obvious the Earth is round.

If you need to Google Geneva + physics to find out the big physics attraction there is CERN, you are probably a fictional narrator of a "popular science" book on physics written by a condescending idiot.
