The first part is highly abstract and philosophical. The central themes I took away are that by their nature, humans will never seek full rationality and goodness. They will consciously do harm to themselves and others for the sole purpose of proving their humanity and freedom of will. People want to live and feel but hide it behind a defensive intellectual armor, fearing to appear foolish to public and themselves.
